API management is essential to Engie Group’s digital transformation. Gérard Guinamand of Engie explains how developing APIs using a single, open Axway API Management platform accelerates time to market and puts business goals within reach.
In the field of API, we chose Axway as our partner after a standard call for tenders’ process. There are two key criteria in this decision. Firstly, we wanted an international company with undoubted credibility and professionalism in the field of API. Secondly, we liked the broad nature of the bid, because we needed on the one hand an API builder so that all the group’s APIs can gradually be developed on a single platform to make it easier to reuse them. And there’s the API manager, since we’re not starting from scratch: there are group APIs which were developed using other technologies. So, the open aspect of the Axway platform which also allowed us to integrate existing APIs was another important factor.
I would say there are two reasons to be satisfied, this chain is completely responsive, both for API development as well as for running these APIs so that they’re always available. The number of APIs we have developed with Axway since selecting it, but also the number of APIs we have integrated into the API management portal, which is now beginning to be an important asset for the group’s digital transformation.
In the coming weeks, we’ll be opening our API portal to all group entities: business players, who’ll be able to leverage business value from the existing set-up, understand what each API does in terms of business, and how it might be useful to their business unit and help meet their own challenges. This portal will also be aimed at developers so they can reuse the API code to cut time to market of the solutions expected by the business.
