10 tech buzzwords you should know in 2025

As new technologies emerge, new tech buzzwords rise to the surface. While these  industry terms can feel like jargon on their own, they take on more meaning when you can connect them to the digital roadmap for the future.

In a series of recent interviews with Axway’s experts, we dove into the trending topics that will be top of mind for enterprise leaders in 2025. Their responses offered a  generous assortment of insightful terms — many of which you should know as we look forward to 2025

01 AIOps

AIOps is the practice of using big data, analytics, and machine learning to automate  and improve IT operations.

The 2025 outlook: IT teams want better ways to run and secure operations. AI’s ability  to analyze large volumes of data quickly allows teams to efficiently detect anomalies, identify issue causes, and curb future problems.

02 Arazzo Specification

Arazzo Specification is a community-driven API standard that offers a programming language-agnostic framework for defining API call sequences and their interdependencies.

The 2025 outlook: With its ability to simplify the developer experience, the Arazzo Specification will likely grow in adoption. It addresses common issues such as poor documentation, workflow orchestration, and automation.

03 Autonomous Accounting

Autonomous accounting combines technologies and data to automate and power accounting tasks with minimal human intervention.

The 2025 outlook: No longer a trend, autonomous accounting has become  
the new benchmark. Moving from a task-driven to a decision-driven function,  leading organizations will use automation to proactively navigate compliance and governance.

04 Edge computing

Edge computing is a distributed computing model in which data is processed and stored closer to the data sources — at the network’s periphery.

The 2025 outlook: In 2024, MFT systems evolved to support edge computing environments to deliver faster, more localized file transfers. This momentum will continue into 2025, with the combination of AI helping to make enterprise systems even more efficient and responsive.

05 Federated API management

Federated APIM is an approach for unifying APIs under a single governance and management layer, regardless of their pattern, deployment, or platform.

The 2025 outlook: API governance and security need improvement, particularly for larger companies with APIs spread across various technologies, locations, and business units. Many businesses are in the early stages of federated APIM, aiming to efficiently manage APIs at scale and adapt to diverse needs.

06 Generative AI

Generative AI is artificial intelligence that produces content based on learned patterns and structures from existing data.

The 2025 outlook: Increasingly integrated into enterprise software platforms and developer tools, generative AI is changing how we work. With the rise of generative AI-powered security tools and predictive analytics, this form of AI will only become more deeply embedded in technology in the new year.

07 Large language models

Large language models are advanced artificial intelligence systems trained on vast amounts of data to understand and generate human-like text.

The 2025 outlook: Enterprises must treat large language models (LLM) as one of their customers or partners, making data more easily accessible. The better trained that LLMs are, the more equipped they are to automate routine tasks like data mapping.

08 Quantum computing

Quantum computing is a type of computing that uses the principles of quantum mechanics to solve complex problems faster than what’s possible with traditional computers.

The 2025 outlook: Many organizations still rely on legacy products, and there is no urgency to migrate to modern alternatives. Quantum computing will likely be that catalyst, pushing enterprise software to adhere to new security standards.

09 Post-quantum computing

Post-quantum computing is the development of cryptographic algorithms that form a layer of defense against cyberattacks from quantum computers.

The 2025 outlook: Migrating cryptographic systems and assets to finalized encryption standards will take most organizations years. Starting post-quantum computing 
(PQC) work now will help organizations proactively mitigate risks before the situation turns into a fire drill.

10 Zero Trust

Zero Trust is a cybersecurity framework that operates under the principle “never trust, always verify” to minimize security risks.

The 2025 outlook: As cyber threats grow increasingly common and complex, Zero Trust architectures will become more widely adopted. In line with this “new normal,” professionals skilled in Zero Trust will be in high demand.
