axway.com 2 "Our mainframe is a rock-solid platform that has served us well for decades, but it was becoming increasingly difficult to meet the more frequent and stringent requirements for transferring data securely to and from the platform," continues Thompson. "In the past, we relied on FTP servers to manage these file transfers, but it was becoming increasingly complex and time-consuming to keep this approach secure. To ensure that we could comply with a fast-changing regulatory environment, we decided to look for a new approach to managed file transfer [MFT]." Choosing a central, secure MFT solution To achieve its compliance goals, the Office of the Comptroller of Maryland selected SecureTransport — a multi-protocol MFT gateway that enables organizations to secure, manage and track file flows from a single point of control. With end-to-end monitoring, reporting, and alerting built in, the Axway solution helps the agency reduce its manual administration requirements while staying compliant with its service-level agreements. "What we appreciate most about SecureTransport is its flexibility," says Thompson. "With SecureTransport, we don't have to dictate to our customers how we exchange files securely — we can offer them the choice of FTP Secure [FTPS], Secure Shell [SSH] protocol, SSH File Transfer Protocol [SFTP], Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure [HTTPS], and even Axway's own point-to- point protocol. This wide range of options means it's straightforward for us to build new integrations with practically any customer platform, including both mainframes and distributed systems." Reducing the management burden By deploying SecureTransport as an on-premises appliance, the Office of the Comptroller of Maryland was confident that it could manage the solution with minimal manual effort — freeing its lean IT team to focus on value- added activities such as service development. Thompson adds, "We needed a solution that we could trust to work reliably 24/7 without the constant supervision of our team. After our pilot project for SecureTransport, we were very impressed by how low-touch the solution was." Keeping pace with new requirements Working with a team from Axway Professional Services, the agency deployed SecureTransport into production, and configured the solution to act as a single point of management for MFT jobs. "We've now been working with Axway for many years, and we consider them a trusted partner," comments Thompson. "Regulatory requirements are a moving target, and as our compliance needs have evolved, we've adapted SecureTransport to meet them." We needed a solution that we could trust to work reliably 24/7 without the constant supervision of our team. After our pilot project for SecureTransport, we were very impressed by how low- touch the solution was. Keith Thompson, IT Systems Specialist, Office of the Comptroller of Maryland We've now been working with Axway for many years, and we consider them a trusted partner.
