Federated API Management Needs To Include Every API Style — And More
The acceptance and promotion of universal (or federated) API management was significant in 2023, wrote Axway Catalysts VP Brian Otten at the start of the year – and Axway has continued to lead this space. Halfway through 2024, we’re following up on our digital transformation predictions – and looking to what’s next. In this new interview, Brian explains why federated API management today needs to include much more than just REST APIs. “We're seeing that companies are asking for, ‘Well, what about all the things we've got in our event-based architecture?’ So, using things like Kafka, Solace, where the pattern is – it's not a synchronous, ‘I call, get some data.’ Especially in supply chain management or long-running processes, I think this is going to be instrumental in things like LLMs and AI: being able to then fire things off, have some things happen, and then be able to process that over a longer-running business process. People want to see that in their federated API management. I call it digital asset management, but that's a little bit confusing too because we think of things like laptops and hardware in that sense, but it is the same thing. I think people don't realize that we spend so much money as organizations on keeping track of all of those types of assets. It's the wide variety of digital assets: REST APIs, other patterns like GraphQL, the event-based stuff, even things that are not yet turned into interfaces. You might have snippets of things, code in integration, code in code repositories like GitHub or Bitbucket... You want to see all these things together, because together, these are all the building blocks.” 📑 Read more about Axway’s approach to federated management of APIs – and beyond: https://blog.axway.com/learning-center/apis/best-api-style-pattern-support?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=open_everything_gc&utm_content=predict_teasers_followup 👉 Get the 2024 predictions guide here: https://resources.axway.com/open-everything/guide-2024-digital-trends?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=open_everything_gc&utm_content=predict_teasers_followup #APIM #FederatedAPIM #UniversalAPIM #2024predictions #DigitalStrategy
